Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) is a detailed method for systematic examination of a well-defined process or operation, either planned or existing.

The most common application of HAZOP is to process equipment. However, the general principles of the technique can be applied to any system, including heating and ventilation systems and electronic logic systems.
